No. There are different tricks and techniques to continue with success. It takes time but, the result is awesome. This article will share some tips to connect with inspiring people from a real-life case study.
How to connect with inspiring people
Connect with more successful or inspiring people in the right way than you do with these six smart strategies.
1. Look for connectors.
We are no longer geographically bound. If you have an influencer you want to meet, the responses are good that you know someone who can introduce you.
Personal identity brings a lot more value than cool requests, so devote some time to figuring out who can connect with the person you’re looking for.
For example, many years ago I hired a bright young lady for a marketing gig. He did a great job and we kept in touch for years after the project was completed.
I recently found myself in need of contact in an economic-development group in a local, large municipality, but knew no soul there.
Suddenly, I remembered that part of my former employee’s hyphenated position was the same as the party’s president. I asked him if he knew him and found out, it was his father.
Small world I didn’t know who my father was or when I would ever need an identity, but you can bet that when he sent his father a note to introduce us, he helped meet her and was happy.
Be nice to everyone and when you need a connection, you may be wondering who will come to your aid.
2. Ask for an interview.
Another great opportunity to connect with influencers is to ask them for an interview if you have a podcast or are writing an article or book.
The request should be sincere, so if you are not interested in featuring them in any way, you should not do so. The fastest way to kill a relationship is to start in false terms!
Providing any type of value exchange for an influencer for their time can be a great way.
3. Use LinkedIn.
This is probably the most “cold call” like all tactics, but if you do it properly, it can work. When you are a Premium Member on LinkedIn ($ 30 USD a month), you get a set of five tokens called “In-Mail”. Lets you send email to five more people who aren’t immediately on your network.
It can get spammy fast, so be careful how you are alerted, but it can work quite effectively as a strategy for providing a message, solution or interview request to someone when you don’t have their contact information.
4. Propose a solution
Going back to the LinkedIn method, when you reach out to someone for a connection you don’t know, it’s a good idea to provide a valuable solution that you can provide to them.
James Altucher has a great way of doing this where he thinks 10 business ideas or solutions that are truly well thought out, organized and prepared, then sends them to influencers who want to get to know him better without asking or asking.
He simply removes the ideas and says that they are “yours to use if you want.”
This is an unusual, but memorable tactic because very few people provide anything and want nothing in return.
Sometimes he would keep it up for months or even years, constantly giving them great ideas. Many times he doesn’t get any kind of response, but sometimes he does.
The key to this strategy is to have a smart solution that is relevant to your influencer and doesn’t ask for anything in return.
5. Attend an event.
Sometimes there is a great opportunity to meet a key influencer just by signing a conference, networking event, or book. Look for an opportunity to say hi and introduce yourself.
This is an old-fashioned guerrilla technique that still works really well. Do something memorable and make a personal acquaintance, then follow through. It’s simple, but it’s effective.
6. Join a program.
Many of the key influencers in your local area or even the national spotlight provide mentors or training programs.
It may be a bit of a play-to-play option, but what is the harm of benefiting from a personal relationship through learning and coaching something along the way, to give your influencer valuable time?
By joining their programs with influencers you will have more face-to-face time and you will express their ideas, personality, and desire to be a part of their world. You can also meet other great influencers.
